Orbot is great, but there are some limitations that prevents full adoption of Tor.

  1. Using Orbot as proxy (non-vpn mode) with Netguard prevents using Tor connection to electum server.
  2. It is not possible to open channels to Tor nodes.
  3. Adding Orbot into the setup creates additional complexity, which is in my opinion not needed.

The suggestion is to add native build-in Tor into the app.

Good reasons why:

  1. It will be much more convenient for the user.
  2. It is quite common in the space (for example Samourai has it, Phoenux has it, ...)
  3. It can be used with Orbot+Netguard setup. (By simply disabling the Netguards network rules for this app, thus whitelisting it.)

I'd like to make a lightning channel from eclair to my umbrel (lnd) node. It seems that TOR support will be needed for this? I hope that it can be added.
