[Feature]: Faster, clearer project creation flow #15

Description

@rosspeili

One-line summary

Make splash Create & open fewer steps and less cognitive load, still flexible for Blank vs personas.

Problem / motivation

Project creation can feel slower/heavier than necessary (template search, fields, workspace coupling). First-run impression matters for Windows installer users.

Proposed solution

Audit current splash create/import flow; propose a tighter path:

  • Sensible defaults (name from folder, Default theme, Blank template).
  • Progressive disclosure for advanced fields (color, description, template).
  • Clearer create new vs import existing vs workspace scan.
  • Fewer clicks to “open and working.”

Include before/after step counts in the PR. Update docs/getting-started/splash-and-projects.md.

Implementer notes: Touch splash UI primarily; don’t break workspace gear discovery; test Windows installer first-run. Out of scope: cloud gallery; multi-user invites.

Alternatives considered

  • Longer multi-step wizard (likely worse).
  • Remove templates entirely (hurts discoverability of 36 personas).

Primary surface

Templates

Constraints you accept

  • Must stay local-first (no required cloud account)
  • Should not break existing tracker *.md readability

Mock / sketch / reference (optional)

Flow map: current steps vs proposed defaults + progressive disclosure.
