Copy to Vast: Egress disclaimer

User story

Scientists bringing data to the local NAS know this operation can be expensive and need to share actionable information with their team to decide if it is worth it. A cost estimate for egress fees would be great.

Details

• AWS S3 egress fees decrease based on monthly volume, so we can only give an estimate. I recommend a conservative estimate based on the most expensive tier.
• I imagine we could put the cost estimate on the "Copy to Vast" button, e.g. "Copy to Vast ($40.52)"

Design challenge

• Our egress fees are waived until they cost more than 15% of the monthly total AWS bill, so maybe we shouldn't bother implementing this until we find that our egress fees are that high? Connecting BFF to AWS to automatically determine how much we've spent would be difficult and add a bunch of complexity to BFF.
