Describe the feature

Hi,

I was wondering if it is possible to add a couple of sensors for the current billing month. To include the accumulated energy and month cost if possible similar to how October-aid does. This is in all to keep the current sensors for daily costs.

Expected behaviour

To have a few sensors for the current month energy and bill costs while keeping the current sensors for previous day.

Use Case

Just for knowledge to display on home assistant the current bill overall.

Thanks for raising this feature. At the moment the recommended way of getting this information is via the energy dashboard, which can provide this information if you change the filter to week or month view.

The Octopus dashboard has been improved lately to provide day/week/month/year summary for electric import/export/gas and kWh/Cost. The data can be manually downloaded eg. into a spreadsheet, to allow compares at a month boundary and trending. I have a button on HA dashboard to link directly to this dashboard.

I have not found a way to (easily) update HA energy dashboard / long term statistics with historical data.

@markcocker there is a service which refreshes the stat sensors that are the recommended way of setting up the dashboard.

This is fairly easy to setup on the HA Dashboard too and therefore easy to take a quick glance at when you login.

I use the Statistics card to show me the totals for today/yesterday/this week/last week/this month/last month/this year (well, many, many Statistics cards within a grid lol). Which gives a really good guide to what your bill is likely to be and how it stacks up to previous periods. The one annoyance is that you can't (I can't seem to at least) offset the start date to match your Octopus billing period (it always says it's an unexpected value), however, as mine starts on the 3rd of the month the extra 2 days is too small an amount to cause any major surprises when the bill arrives in my inbox. Admittedly, it would be a showstopper if your billing period started in the back ¾ of the month.

*One thing I should note. I have an Octopus Home Mini so the data I get includes much more info, such as prices including the standing charge etc, so the stats cards give very accurate info. I still used this card/grid before I got the Home Mini, but I'd have to account for the standing charge not showing. Getting the Home Mini also allowed me to add graphs showing the 5 minute usage pattern, plus all the various peak/off-peak comparisons etc. I do love ever more complicated grids and Dashboards. I've got grids with similar data for all of my 15 or so energy monitoring devices too 😂😂. P.s. I know some, or all, of this is in the energy dashboard but I perfer it to hand as soon as I open the app, and with my own layout, colour scheme, and data comparisons.

P.p.s. The Home Mini is free if you ask Octopus for one, and they're fantastic. Mine took ages to arrive, a few months at least, but hopefully their stocks of them are better now 🤞
