Review implications of MkDocs 2.0 roadmap

This project uses Material for MkDocs to generate its documentation.

As described in this overview, the underlying MkDocs project is introducing changes in its 2.0 release which are not backwards compatible and which have implications for the support of plugins used in this project.

This issue is to review the implications of the changes in MkDocs 2.0 and consider potential responses to ensure that this project can continue to generate and publish adequate documentation.

• Sphinx
• The Elixir Toolkit Theme for Jekyll

Doing nothing and continuing to use M4MkD indefintely should also be considered, but this evaluation must take account of the full implications of deploying with unmaintained packages.
