Specifically looking for help with databases and Python, I've heard MySQL might be a good place to start?

This would be interesting to have.

sqlite is the database that comes with python: http://www.python-course.eu/sql_python.php

That might be a good place to start and is indeed where the Django tutorials usually start. Any specific use case?

Re Django this looks quite helpful: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.9/ref/databases/

I'm looking to use it with Kivy, basically for a server with login details and character data

Interesting I'd suggest looking in to sqlite and the corresponding Python
tutorials. If you think it'd be useful we could go through one as a
workshop?

I'll have a look into it, thanks. A workshop may be useful if people would be interested?
