This error is caused by not having a proper Ruby development environment on your Mac. Specifically, it's theses 2 issues:

  1. You are on an Apple Silicon Mac, but you installed some things (such as the ffi gem) using Rosetta, or with arch -x84_64, or perhaps you transferred some files from an Intel Mac to your Apple Silicon Mac. Rosetta is not needed to work with newer Ruby versions.

  2. You are using the system Ruby (the Ruby version that Apple preinstalled on your Mac)

To fix this, I recommend using a Ruby version manager to install a version of Ruby that's separate from the system Ruby and won't interfere with it. Here's a step-by-step guide for installing Ruby on a Mac.
