Turning Off a Skill Effect

I got the Green Thumb skill which says "Plants around the player grow faster." However, any time I'm standing on grass blocks, grass and flowers bloom up around me like I had used bonemeal. I'm ruining the landscaping everywhere I go. I can't see any way to disable this effect short of removing the mod completely.

Is there some method of disabling it I haven't seen? If not, then this might be a problem.

(And the effect doesn't work on the modded plants I was hoping to use it on, either. But I wasn't too surprised at that.)
