Colony/Hood/Block/Home Development Discussion

This topic is to discuss the technical aspects of the development of the colony/hood/block/home update.

Update Purpose:

To allow users to place a home in a block that they have ownership over. They should be able to select from a handful of VRML homes as well as 2d home icons. Blocks reside in hoods and hoods reside in Colonies.

Things to discuss:

• Database Structure
• API Endpoints
• Permissions
• Assets (images,vrml,etc)

Regarding DB Structure

Place table:

• this will have a record for each colony, hood and block as well as user's homes.
• shared objects are assigned to a place, thus the point above is important.
• Chat is also attached to a place id.

home table:

• this is to include a list of home "templates" available for purchasing
• This is unlikely to be updated often, so a json may even be an option.

map_location table:

• parent_place_id - the id of the location this map location is for
• location - an numeric value to indicate which square to fill
• map_image (2d icon)
• place_id - the assigned place id (ie: a user's home)
• available - defines if the field is available for ownership

Additional Notes:

• block maps were 12x6. block/preset.tmpl
• hood maps were 6x5
• colony maps were 8x5, and the map is located in community/preset.tmpl

Questions to full fill:

• How to assign to a specific location in a block/hood? A: map_location.parent_place_id
• How to pupulate the maps? A: fetch all map_location records for this parent_place_id order by location and cycle through.
• How to assign a place as a user's home?
• How do we decide the 'theme set' of the map for said place?
