Can `marlin` handle sex structure in species?

Hi Dan,

Does marlin currently allow for sexually dimorphic species? In other words, what's the best way to tackle a species in which males and females have different von bertalanffy life history characteristics.

Not directly; it's been on the "maybe" list for a while but just creates a mess to keep track of it all and figure out a flexible way to keep track of the different life history traits by sex. The only way at the moment would be to just have two different fish populations, one for males and one for females. They could share all the same other parameters (selectivity at length, price per unit weight, habitat, etc), just have different growth curves. The problem with that is that there is no way for the model to correctly do the accounting for the spawner recruit relationship, which could have some funky effects, but could as a test set steepness to 1 for a run, then set it to say 0.6 in another, to see how sensitive results are to this (when steepness is 1 recruitment is independent of spawning biomass).
