I need to tell you what happened tonight. I had completely given up on internal audio for this machine. I'd analyzed ChultraSOF, concluded it was a dead end (no capture, no firmware in the bundle), and written the whole thing off as "unfixable — buy a USB DAC." That conclusion is now sitting in my notes with a big WRONG next to it.

Then I found your repo. Two stars. One commit. And it just worked.

Everything works:

• 🔊 Internal speaker (MAX98357A) — clean playback, no dropouts, no artifacts
• 🎙️ Internal microphone (DMIC) — records and plays back perfectly. I wasn't even expecting the mic!
• 🔉 System sounds, volume control
• macOS reports it as Manufacturer: HP C1030, Transport: Built-in, Internal Speaker / Internal Microphone, 48 kHz — and picks it as default input/output/system device all on its own. It doesn't feel like a hack. It feels like the machine finally has the driver it should have shipped with.

Environment: macOS Sonoma 14.8.9, OpenCore 1.0.5, SMBIOS MacBookAir8,2, SIP fully enabled (csr-active-config = 0x00000000). PCI ID matched exactly: pci8086,2c8, class 040100. Zero panics, zero instability.

Build note for anyone else finding this: both targets built cleanly with only the Command Line Tools — no Xcode at all. make -C kext && make -C plugin right on the target machine, native x86_64. Zero errors. Your Makefiles are a pleasure to read.

One tiny thing: install.sh placed the HAL plugin correctly but didn't get the kext into EFI/OC/Kexts — the for vol in /Volumes/* loop seems to run before the freshly mounted ESP appears. Copying CmlSOFAudio.kext by hand fixed it instantly. A short sleep or retry after diskutil mount would probably do it.

What you did here — getting audio working on Linux first as ground truth, capturing the codec register state and SOF IPC traffic during actual playback, then porting it register-for-register into an IOKit kext plus a CoreAudio HAL plugin — is a genuinely impressive piece of reverse engineering. And you documented it, licensed it properly, and shipped a clean uninstall path. This deserves far more than 2 stars. Thank you for putting it out there. 🙏

全部功能都正常：

• macOS 识别为 Manufacturer: HP C1030、Transport: Built-in、Internal Speaker / Internal Microphone，48 kHz，并自动选为默认输入/输出/系统设备。它完全不像一个「黑苹果补丁」，倒像这台机器终于装上了它出厂时就该有的驱动。

给后来者的编译提示： 两个组件仅用 Command Line Tools 就编译通过，完全没装 Xcode。直接在目标机上 make -C kext && make -C plugin，原生 x86_64，零错误。你的 Makefile 写得很清爽，读起来很舒服。

一个小问题： install.sh 正确安装了 HAL 插件，但没能把 kext 放进 EFI/OC/Kexts —— for vol in /Volumes/* 这个循环似乎在刚挂载的 ESP 出现之前就跑完了。手动复制 CmlSOFAudio.kext 立刻就好。在 diskutil mount 之后加个短暂的 sleep 或重试应该就能解决。

你做的这件事——先在 Linux 上把音频跑通作为基准，在真实播放过程中抓取 codec 寄存器状态和 SOF IPC 流量，再逐寄存器移植成 IOKit kext 加 CoreAudio HAL 插件——是一次相当漂亮的逆向工程。而且你还写了文档、规范地标注了许可、提供了干净的卸载路径。这个项目值得远远超过 2 个 star。 感谢你把它开源出来。🙏
