This is what both NPN and @sdtaylor are using in their phenology forecasts. The latter has his code for downloading and downscaling here:

For forecasts that rely on subdaily met (e.g. land fluxes) we probably want to use the PEcAn ensemble-based debiasing and downscaling scheme.
