Need README instructions on how to build and setup the project for debugging

I'd love to try and contribute to the project, but there are some things in this project that I'm not familiar with. If you can give a general overview of how to get my project setup I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm using IntelliJ IDE but I'm happy to use whatever.

Now I am considering to debug that Login Step with the Ender Client sources. Have not started doing it, so I will see how far I get without documentation.

Is there any "debug" version of the client already to use directly without debugging it in Eclipse?
Are there any debug levels implemented already?
How is the Paradox Game (all functions?) and the Ender Client (only UI?) separated on an API level? Is there an "official" API from Paradox that the Ender developers know of or is it reverse-engineered by the community?
