There must be industry standards used for following technical topics:

Voxels:

  • data-structure layout (data types, layouts, minimum fields etc.)
  • description-attachments (textures, colors, preferred isosurface extraction algorithm etc.)

Processing algorithms:

  • cross-vendor ability (all kinds of processing units like CPU's and GPU's)

Proposed industry standards:

  • glTF for voxel data standard [Khronos Consortium]
  • OpenCL and C / C++ for cross vendor computation abilities [Khronos Consortium]

Acceptance from the development team is shown with a tick.

The issue is going to be discussed by the core team. Changes or proposals are being requested if necessary.

Moreover initial effort is already being made by @realvictorprm so that a Voxel standard is implemented in the next major release of glTF.

Thanks for listening.
Cheers!
