Connecting to Tecnativa/docker-socket-proxy

Is there a way to not directly connect to docker socket but to Tecnativa/docker-socket-proxy ?
env DOCKER_SOCKET and DOCKER_HOST doesn’t work.

In my case the environment DOCKER_SOCKET takes effect but it restarts endlessly with this error:

Error loading config: Docker socket not found at tcp://hawser-socket-proxy:2375
