Solve for X is a global initiative from Google which aims to find pioneers in science and technology who are working on huge game changing “moonshots” and accelerating their progress to impact the world in positive ways. Solve for X is intended to be a forum to encourage and amplify technology-based moonshot thinking and teamwork. Each moonshot project addresses a huge problem, with a radical solution/perspective/approach and leverages a breakthrough in science or technology. Solve for X Moonshot is all about the intersection of 1) a clearly defined problem, 2) a radical proposal for how to fix the problem and 3) a scientific reason to believe it is not completely crazy to do it. After hosting the 2 initial events at their campus, Google decided to open up the Solve for X program to the public by inviting groups from around the globe to apply to host their own events. GDG Nairobi applied and was chosen in late September as 1 of 12 sites worldwide (and 1 of 2 in Africa) to host an event in the first half year of 2015. GDG Nairobi is searching for pioneers to present at one of our preliminary events; the first one being at USIU Nairobi on 26th May 2015. GDG Nairobi is a Google Developer Group (GDG). GDG groups are organized all over the world by tech enthusiasts who are interested in development based on Google technologies. GDG Nairobi meets monthly at the iHUB and people are free to join via our website here. If you think you have an X (i.e. a Moonshot) and would like a chance to connect with some of the brightest minds in the eastern side of Africa at our upcoming event in Nairobi, please fill out the application under the "What's your moonshot" section above. |
