Welcome to the GSSoC '24 Extended Campus Ambassadors program! We’re thrilled to have you on board. As a Campus Ambassador, your role is to spread the word about GSSoC, encourage participation, and help build a strong community. 🌍

As a Campus Ambassador your responsibilities:

1. Focus on spreading awareness about GSSoC within your college and on social media.
2. Engage with your peers by organizing events or sessions on open source.
3. Encourage others to participate as a contributor and contribute to the program.

In this YouTube session taken by Sanjay Sir, senior program manager of GSSOC, general discussions about the selection and role of Campus Ambassador (CA) were discussed. Along with that, winners of GSSOC CA Onboarding Giveaway Challenge are also announced. The summary of the video is presented below in the form of the easy-to-read Q&A.

How many people filled the form to be CA and how many did we select ?

This year we had thousands of people filling the form from all around the world. However, sadly due to the limited seats we could only select few of the people to be CA this year. Remaining people can try again in next programme!

What is the role of CA ?

• Create campus community.
  As CA you'll be forming campus communities to not only pitch open source as an idea, but helping people actively contribute into open source.

• Lead the Events
  Ask us for any help needed to organise and conduct events. Bring people and share your ideas to enlarge the community. We'll be also guiding you to apply on Github Campus Expert Programme. If you need speakers for event, we'll be providing the speakers for the sessions. You can also contact our core team to be speakers.

• Building connections, feedback loop
  Help bring more people into open source, enlarging the community, making more connections and networks, creating a positive loop.

Rewards of being a CA?

Certifications, goodies, shoutout on social media, lifetime chance to get displayed on leaderboard, top 3 CA get the chance to Web3 conference and much more.

Can you be both a contributor and CA?

YES! You can be both. We encourage everyone to contribute and build the community stronger !

How to become a member of core team ?

Being an active part of GSSOC programme is one of the best ways to showcase your talent and skills. Both hard and soft skills matter in determining if you will become the next core member. Bringing more people into open source, helping them contribute and making exceptional contributions are few important things that helps, for example :)

Timeline of the programme?

• Oct 1 - Coding period starts
• Oct 10 - 20 events online/offline
• Oct 15 - 2nd Phase, More activites
• Oct 31 - Track the activities, Further Events
• Nov 10 - Results announced

In the team section of GSSOC website, you can contact any core member by clicking on their profile. Select one-to-one mentorship, and shoot an email. They will respond as soon as possible.
