FnMate not working for chooser windows

I'd like to be able to scroll through a chooser window with some kind of Vim keybindings instead of cursor keys. So it seemed like FnMate would be a good choice to make this happen.

However, FnMate works only in normal application windows, not in a chooser window it seems.

Has anybody an idea how to achieve this anyways?
