Timeline component ordering #45

Easy bit first: I totally agree that the most recent breach should be shown first, that’s the most likely thing people will be looking for. We’ll sort that out later on in the API that returns the results. I’ve also renamed this discussion to something a little more generic so we can tackle things like your second point. I’m not sure that “most impactful” is something easily measurable nor most relevant; surely Ashley Madison was more impactful than a (much larger) credential stuffing list? But then “impactful” is subjective. ‘let’s see what other suggestions come through, I think there’s a lot of untapped opportunity here yet. And for people reading the later, do also consider these results in the context of the dedicated breach page where we intend to show much more info about the incident: https://preview.haveibeenpwned.com/pages/breach |

Howdy 🤠
this very well just could be an example data being example data and not a conscious choice, however the timeline that shows after you search your email might work better if sorted by latest first as typically you want to show users the most relevant data first of which if your constrained to ordering by date (this is a timeline after all) then I would guess a data breach that happened last month is probably more critical that I look into it VS Adobe from in 2013
With that said that could be an argument that a timeline might not be the most useful way to express this data. If we were not constrained by a timeline we could show the most impactful breaches first… what is the most impactful? No idea but I’m sure that some basic scoring off of data included an impact of lost data to your real life.
cheers!
