There is an attribute tag @equal-contrib that is applied to <contrib> to indicate whether an author contributed equally to a paper.

Publishers may have more that one set of authors who contributed equally:
Author A and B contributed equally, Author D and E contributed equally - but these are different groups that need to be distinguished.

Joint first author - same thing?

These are often attached to a footnote
