Description
I want to be able to diagnose the geostrophic flow induced by an ocean density increment.
I attempted to implement geostrophy using atlas's differential operators (within the GDASApp), but, as always, I started coding without thinking this through properly and eventually realized that the atlas differential operators are limited to horizontal fields. I might still push a PR for this work in the GDASApp with the caveat that it doesn't work on the hybrid coordinate.
In the meantime, I want to revive part of this old PR that we deleted a while back: #296.
Solution
- Bring back part of Feature/linear geostrophy #296.
- Implement a simple change of variable to compute geostrophy ... Any other idea?
Alternatives
I could possibly cook up something with nodeColumns, probably outside of soca. I might still do some of that as well.
