Nice to meet you @Mahimasai, the best way to start contributing is using our software projects. I suggest you use our Unibotics web platform for robot programming and solve there one or two RoboticsAcademy exercises. Share here the demo videos of your working solutions and your questions. After that, playing with RoboticsAcademy repo is the natural next step and then become a RoboticsAcademy developer. The landing process takes time, go ahead :-) you'll receive more feedback and guidance after the first steps. Cheers! |

@jmplaza Are there any other alternatives for contributing to Jderobots without downloading the docker dataset and image they are quite heavy i would say. |

Hello! I hope you’re doing well.
My name is Mahima, and I wanted to introduce myself. Recently, I was part of a team that built a working Hexapod robot, and our project was recognized at an IEEE Conference on Robotics and Mechatronics. My personal contribution was only a small part of the overall robot — I mainly supported my seniors and helped troubleshoot the Hexapod’s movement and stability issues. Even though my role was small, the experience meant a lot to me and it made me realize how much there is still to learn in robotics.
That experience pushed me to explore deeper, which is why I’m really eager to learn and contribute here at JdeRobot. I admire the work this community does in robotics, computer vision, and simulation, and I feel this is the right place for me to grow.
My current skills include Python, C++, Java, full-stack development, and some machine learning — in the learning phase. I want to slowly build myself up by contributing to beginner-friendly issues and understanding your workflow properly.
If you have any suggestions on where a beginner like me should start or any tasks that would help me understand the project better, I would be very grateful. I’m here to learn, take guidance, and improve step by step.
To be honest, my contribution was only a small part of the overall robot. I mainly worked under the guidance of my seniors, helping fix movement issues and tuning the stability. My proudest moment was when the Hexapod finally walked in a straight line… or at least straighter than before 😄
At one point it was wobbling so much that I wasn’t sure if it was a robot or just trying to dance.
But the whole experience taught me how much depth and beauty there is in robotics, and how much I still have to learn. That’s exactly why I’m here at JdeRobot — to learn properly, understand things deeply, and contribute step by step.
I’m still early in my robotics journey, but very eager to grow. I would really appreciate any guidance on beginner-friendly issues or modules where I can start contributing.
Looking forward to learning from all of you — and hopefully building robots that don’t try to moonwalk like my Hexapod did 😄
Thank you so much!
