Is non-compact "export to JSON" sufficient? It could be a toggle that applies to all output but I think that toggle could be left accidentally enabled resulting in needless bloat. This was necessary to track down a specific bug, right? sounds very much like an "advanced user" feature, and exporting to json probably counts as that too
