Running Osmosis, Self-Hosted, on Urbit

NOTICE: These instructions are out of date. See here to deploy Osmosis to a fakezod.

Follow along for a step-by-step guide to installing and using Osmosis on Urbit.

Why

There are many reasons but it boils down to:

  • not having to rely on app.osmosis.zone if it ever goes down or is censored
  • control over the app; you own its data

Prerequisites

  • Keplr installed on a compatible browser
  • tokens that can be sent to Osmosis
  • an Urbit comet/moon/planet installed and accessible (see here to quickly deploy a comet)

Install the App

From the Landscape web UI where your comet/moon/planet is accessed, paste ~larryx-woldyr in the search bar. This is the identity of the developer who published the Osmosis app on Urbit. A list of apps will appear, select "Install Osmosis" and once installed, open it; it'll make a new tab. Connect Keplr, send it some tokens, do a swap, and verify that it worked on mintscan.io.

Note: when you download an app on Urbit, it is from someone else's ship. If their ship is down, you won't be able to download the app from them. In that case you would ask around in a public group chat for someone who has a copy - or find the source code and run it yourself.
