Look at maps for possible areas where BOW underperforms in area of concern compared to nearby area. Compare this difference to the difference inside and outside that same area for competitor banks. #14

Divide up by states teams.

Monday: We should report any areas where this type of analysis shows concerns (so compile any pics that show possible issues), and consider routes forward.

It's ready for y'all. Just made a large push to the repo.

You might be interested in the images/plotly/ folder... Open those html files in a browser and it's easy to zoom in to each city and zoom in enough that boundaries are easy to make out, plus the underlying maps make them easier to use. 🥇 🎉 🎆

Took me 90 minutes to figure that out, but it's easy to adapt from here to use with alt variables/definitions.

If some of the graphs are easier to use than others, make a note.

Oh also, if you find a place that you want to show Matt (it looks like the area of concern is seeing fewer loans or more denials than adjacent tracks), you can save a PNG from the webpage!

@donbowen it feels like only Phoenix has the graphics with content, and others plot only has the scale on it without other content

Wow, those are so cool!!! It just feels like play the game of Earth OL.
But what those red spot imply again?

Well, hopefully your classmates helped you figure that out. The red lines depend on the particulars of the graph... maybe the filename or title of the graph help out?

Which branches have highlights from the maps to show Matt today? As I said, "Oh also, if you find a place that you want to show Matt (it looks like the area of concern is seeing fewer loans or more denials than adjacent tracks), you can save a PNG from the (plotly) webpage!"

Here are some notes Thomas and I took from looking at the PHX Maps:

Denial Rate:
33.3998988, -112.0386208

  • In all other banks it is a denial rate of 0.76
  • In BoW it looks closer to 1
Also, only serving loans in one majority-minority district

High hispanic

  • All redlined areas except one or 2 have high denial rates
  • All other banks they are more in the 0.6-0.7 range rather than BoW’s 1 denial rate
  • In 6 high hisp locations there are high loans out of about 30 tracts

High asian

  • The one Asian redlined area for BoW close to 1 but all other banks it looks more like 0.7-8
  • All denied we believe

Basically, they don’t serve a ton of loans to PHX in general, but in the areas with majority-minority they have higher denial rates. Highest denial rates observed are the majority minority areas. Compared to all other banks they are denying more in PHX.

Dollars in Loans:

  • BoW and all other banks look pretty comparable in terms of the dollar amount in loans given.

Log num loans:

  • Its almost all blank, tells us they don’t serve PHX.

High black areas

  • No approved loans
