Reddit deleted all my API keys months ago. I guess this one got deleted too. I'd say make your own API key and substitute it in but Reddit no longer lets nobodies create API keys. The best resource I found so far is https://www.redditapis.com/blogs/reddit-data-api-2026 . A highly motivated individual might be able to get a new key, but it's a huge amount of work. I spent an hour about a month ago and gave up.

tl;dr: Reddit only hands out API keys to big names and players who pay money now.

It appears that reddit has revoked my client_id for the app. They did not notify me of this or give me any reasoning as to why. I believe it may be an automated clean they are running. Everything concerning their API has been very difficult for the past couple of years. I'm sure this is part of their ongoing enshitification. I have operated this app with the same id for nearly 10 years now.

I'm still looking into this, but it doesn't look good. This could be the end of the Downloader For Reddit.

Some 3rd party reddit apps on Android use the RedReader API to get access. Would this be a possibility for DfR?

Jdownloader managed to add a work-around, could be worth looking into whatever they did, i much prefer the the UI of your app over theirs

I only found out about this app and started using it a couple months ago, but it was perfect for my needs. Thank you for making it, it was glorious while it lasted.

I'm still exploring options to keep it alive.

The problem with cookie auth is that it would require a substantial reworking of the app. The whole flow is built around using reddit's api. If I switched it to a cookie auth flow I would have to rewrite, and frankly hack together, a large portion of the app.

That's something I just don't have the time to do right now. That would also mean accessing reddit in a way that is undocumented and subject to change without notice. I would be afraid of investing all the time necessary for the rework, just for something to change or reddit enact another restriction that renders it obsolete again.

what's the next best option after Downloader for Reddit? Scrawler is good but I dislike how it put's folders and files (settings) among downloaded files - to every folder!!! HUH.

I've been using jdownloader, the ui isn't quite as friendly and it doesn't keep track of what you've previously downloaded, but it works well enough
