Relevant components

  • Standalone tray application (based on Qt Widgets)
  • Plasmoid/applet for Plasma desktop
  • Dolphin integration
  • Command line tool (syncthingctl)
  • Integrated Syncthing instance (libsyncthing)
  • Backend libraries

Is your feature request specific to a certain platform/environment? Please specify.
I don't think so

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
Updates would often be missed, both to this tray application and to the Syncthing core itself

Describe the solution you'd like
A opt-in feature to check for updates of the Application (e.g. from fetching the newest release from GitHub and see if it's "bigger" than the running one)

Describe alternatives you've considered
For user to manually check for new releases I guess

Additional context

I'm working on it on this branch: https://github.com/Martchus/qtutilities/tree/setup

It is just one of the things I'm currently working on but maybe I find the time to push this further in the next weeks.

Note that as a workaround you could use 3rdparty packaging like the Chocolatey package. Of course this introduces another delay (as the maintainer of this package needs to update it first) but at least the package can be updated automatically.
