"Everything Search" and context menu

I've been using MediaInfo for some time. Everything was working fine. Unfortunately, MediaInfo recently disappeared from the context menu of the "Everything Search" app. I've tried everything, including reinstalling both apps. Nothing helps. The entry remains missing. I'm using Windows 11.

There are no issues and there are also no changes to shell extension recently.

Thanks for having tested, so weird, I asked that they are sure to have the latest version.

In the meantime I received another email:

Mediainfo : I can't add it to the right-click menu.

I used Explorer++ portable (from portableapps) and packaged MediaInfo-Qt (what I have currently installed on my primary PC) for the above test but the context menu is exactly the same Windows File Explorer context menu as shown below so there should not be any issues. All the other packaged and sparse packaged apps have their entries showing correctly too.

If you mean the Qt one, can always get it from https://github.com/cjee21/MediaInfo/actions/workflows/Test_Build.yml. Just open the latest one and there will be an artifact which is a zip file containing both CLI and Qt GUI along a text file of the versions used. However it is not digitally signed so requires installing via PowerShell.

silly question (and we definitely need to put that in our own Windows builds at some point), how? I tried Add-AppxPackage -AllowUnsigned ".\MediaInfo_Qt_Windows_x64.msix" buts looks like that a appx is expected and I have an error.

You can only use -AllowUnsigned on Windows 11 and it requires administrator rights if the package contains binaries.

ERROR_UNSIGNED_PACKAGE_INVALID_CONTENT | 0x80073D2B | The package deployment failed because its content is not valid for an unsigned package.

English version:

It means need to run as administrator as I mentioned earlier because the package contains executable. Unsigned packages that contain binaries need admin privilege to install.

"I uninstalled everything again and then reinstalled it without the virus scanner. And lo and behold, it works now. There's obviously a problem with AVG Antivirus. Thank you for your work!"

FYI there seems to be a bug with Windows 11 recently where if you right-click pinned File Explorer on taskbar and select a pinned folder in the jumplist, all the shell extensions registered for folder will be loaded by dllhost.exe even though there is no context menu invoked. It may not happen 100% of the time but quite often. All shell extension DLLs that are loaded by this will remain loaded until log-off/restart unlike the usual unload after 10-seconds of unused. This may cause issues for update/uninstall.
