[Bug]: Could not pick up dropped HERMES letters

Describe the issue

Letters which were removed from a HERMES and then immediately dropped after removal could not be picked up by an empty-handed character.

This issue is from a few weeks ago. I had a file about it on my desktop and forgot to submit an issue report about it.

How to reproduce

I had my character took one letter out of HERMES in Hand's room, while standing on the stairs tile next to the HERMES, and then drop the letter. Additional mail was available, so took I had my character take the other letter out of the HERMES and drop it too - without moving from the stair tile either time.
I had my character try to pick up each letter multiple times, but neither letter could be picked up. The "..." pick up animation was shown each time, but neither letter moved.
I checked to see if other items could be put into my character's hands, or picked up from the same tile - and my character was able to, but still could not pick up either letter.
