Paginationation in odata

HI,
i am using skip for pagination.
but what i observed that my table contain 1000 rows and page size is 10 .
response getting only 10 rows that is fine. but sql giving all 1000 records then odata return only 10 records .
so how we reduce this sql load as sql also to give only 10 rows
