Hello. I installed the older version of iTunes, as listed in the guide. This was on a "virgin" machine that never had iTunes installed before. When using the Rockbox utility to install the bootloader after putting the iPod in DFU mode, I kept getting an error it couldn't install the bootloader due to an issue with the iTunes driver. I had to try again on another machine with the latest iTunes (12.13.10.3) and I was able to install the bootloader no problem.
The same issue at the step when putting the iPod in DFU mode for iTunes to install the recovery partition. It refused to show the recovery option on the version of iTunes you linked but it worked fine with the latest version above. When it came to the restore step and picking the firmware file I went back to the recommended version just to be safe so I'm not sure if that would work with the latest version or not.
