Updated TOC #11
Comments
I know you put some effort into this, but I like the old one better. We want to decouple the section intro text from the list of chapters because it reduces the barrier to entry; readers can easily and quickly scan the list of chapters to see if it peeks their interest. Opening with the intro text asks for more of a commitment from the reader. Instead, we'd rather show them the outline, and hope that motivates them to read more. See my latest commit. I envision the brief TOC as before that links to section and chapter intros. Each section has its own page. I did the Discovering section and the first three chapters so far. If you like it, go ahead and start with the Rendering Techniques and later sections, and I'll finish the chapters in the Discovering section. I'm also open to style changes, for example, I don't like the chapter links on the main TOC page. Also, feel free to cleanup any of my new HTML; you obviously know more about CSS than I do. |
No worries. I'll check out your latest commit and follow that style. |
OK. I'll finish the Discovering section and do the Software Design (VII) section. Can you do the others? It goes pretty quick when you get rolling. Word on the street is the book was already released in London since a shipment arrived early, so I'd like to get the website up next weekend (end of July). Do you think that is reasonable for us? |
Given that there's some external links to the OpenGL Insights website already, I added pages for section intros, so the site can go up, but we'll add the chapter intros as planned. No rush. http://www.khronos.org/news/events/siggraph-los-angeles-2012 |
@gnlnx @Groovounet I'm adding links for all chapter in all sections tonight, but will need help from you guys - if possible - to add intros for each chapter. |
I added placeholders for all chapters that include links to the author bios and code. All we need to do now is add intros for each chapter. |
Hi Patrick, Honestly it sounds very improbable to me that I will be able to help on
Very sorry about that but I just can't either and this is why I suggested Thanks, On 23 July 2012 02:42, Patrick Cozzi <

lol. Funny, how I have many of the same deadlines: GPU Pro 4 chapter and SIGGRAPH presentation. I might get some time to work on this tonight and tomorrow, so don't worry about it. Release any time you want, and I'll get the updates in as soon as I can. |
Erm, how can I release the website? On 23 July 2012 16:47, Patrick Cozzi <

Can't we redirect www.openglinsights.com to the ftp site provided by the domain, so all we have to do it move files from git to the ftp site? blog.openglinsights.com will still point to the blog. |
I see... so you want to put the pages on that FTP. I thought we would have What do you think? On 23 July 2012 16:54, Patrick Cozzi <

I put the larger pdf files on my university's account (the links are already setup), but I was planning to put the rest of the site (under 10 MB) on the domain's ftp so we can both have access to it. |
Sounds good to me! On 23 July 2012 17:09, Patrick Cozzi <

lol. I learned HTML 15 years ago, and forgot most of it. Actually, I used Notepad++ to edit the files and only tested in Chrome, so I should have used a better editor and tried different browsers. My fault. Make sure the updates are in github, and I'll try to add more chapter intros soon. |
No probIem! I just pushed by changes to repository. Now, I am going to update the FTP and the URL! For you want to write a post on the blog to announce the website release? On 23 July 2012 23:38, Patrick Cozzi <

I'll let yo do the honors, and I have something ready to go on my personal blog. I'll post that soon. |
If I go to the site in Firefox, I get a page with "Choisissez votre interface préférée" Chrome and IE are OK though. |
Actually wait few minute an update Firefox with F5 and it should be fine. I tested also Opera and Safari. It should be all ok. On 24 July 2012 00:25, Patrick Cozzi <

Still no luck on Firefox though. |
Nice post. |
Thanks! If you use openglinsights.com instead of www.openglinsight.com? I am pretty sure it's a story of cache, probably in Firefox as the other I had this message when I play around with the URL redirection... On 24 July 2012 01:19, Patrick Cozzi <
