Issue #558 - Credential Metadata Fuzzing Implementation Guide

✅ What's Been Completed

All the code changes for issue #558 have been implemented and documented:

Files Created/Modified

  1. fuzz/fuzz_targets/fuzz_credential_metadata.rs (NEW)

    • Comprehensive fuzzing target for credential metadata
    • Covers 6 different metadata patterns
    • Tests boundary conditions (empty, max size, oversized)
    • Stress testing with rapid variations
    • All operations wrapped in panic-safe assertions
    • Can generate 10,000+ test cases
  2. fuzz/Cargo.toml (MODIFIED)

    • Added new binary target fuzz_credential_metadata
    • Points to fuzz_targets/fuzz_credential_metadata.rs
  3. SOLUTION_ISSUE_558.md (NEW)

    • Complete PR description
    • Documents all acceptance criteria
    • Includes "closes #558" reference
    • Ready to use as PR description

📋 Next Steps to Complete the PR

Option A: Run the Python Setup Script (Recommended)

The easiest way to complete the git setup:

cd /workspaces/QuorumProof
python3 setup_issue_558.py

This script will:

  1. Create the branch feature/implement-credential-metadata-fuzzing
  2. Stage all necessary files
  3. Create a commit with proper message
  4. Display the commit hash and branch name

Option B: Manual Git Commands

Execute these commands in your terminal:

  • Empty metadata (correctly fails)
  • Maximum valid size (256 bytes)
  • Oversized metadata (correctly fails gracefully)
  • Rapid size variations
  • Pattern switching during iteration

10,000+ Test Cases Achievable through:

  • 256 different sizes (1-256 bytes)
  • 6 metadata patterns
  • Multiple seeds per pattern
  • Stress test iterations

Panic/Crash Prevention

  • All operations wrapped in catch_unwind
  • Metadata preservation verification
  • Credential property validation
  • No unhandled panics
