We have each worked on this problem from different perspectives and have implemented some different parts of Seaborn. We may be able to get it done more effectively if we work together and come up with the best approach.

You definitely win in the creative name department, though starborn is a company which may be hard to outrank on Google.

Hi Jeff. Yes, absolutely!

Sorry I missed your message earlier. I'd love a quick video chat to discuss this. I'll email you ...

Hi, have you had the occasion to discuss ? I'm interested in the "Seaborn with Altair" idea and would like to contribute.

@theolamayo Thanks for your interest. We did talk several months ago, and both agree there should be a common base here, but I think other priorities have gotten in the way for both of us. I think at this point we are looking for great ideas and enthusiastic contributors. As you can see, both repositories have been stagnant for a while. If you have some time and great thoughts, please feel free to discuss here (I "maintain" Kitware/seaborn_altair but also watch this repo).

One thought is that since it's been almost a year, any new effort should seriously look at new features going into vega lite, including box plot, etc. as well as things on the roadmap. It seems vega lite is getting closer to directly supporting some of the needed seabornish extensions, which would be great for this library, which could be an ever-lighter layer over altair.

Thanks for the response. Indeed developments brought to vega lite may change the way we can build this library. Waiting for a stable vega lite 3 version and altair using it might be sensible.
