Make OOP based classes containing custom functions for handling motor controllers (talons, spark, sparkMAX, etc) so motor controllers are declared in one spot and can be handled dynamically indirectly via an object in the RobotMap class.
This will allow the developer to set properties for the motor controller on declaration, such as independent curve handling, software limits, etc
