Connecting to RIT's Wireless Network

This tutorial serves as a guide for getting connected to RIT's WPA2-Enterprise network through GNOME's Network tool and interface.

Click on the taskbar.

The taskbar is location in the upper right corner of the screen.

A Wi-Fi status bar should be visible among the system information.

If it's not visible, wireless drivers for your computer may not be installed.

Click on the Wifi status bar, and click Select Network.

A popup will appear on the center of your screen.

This popup lists all nearby access points. Select RIT from this list.

Two windows will appear.

  • The Wi-Fi Network Authentication Required window allows configuration of the selected network.
  • The Network window (underneath the other window) lists all network types, shows the current status of networks, and allows for further network configuration.

We'll be dealing with the topmost window, as that allows us to connect to the RIT network.

In the Authentication category, select Protected EAP (PEAP) from the dropdown menu.

Tick the No CA certificate is required checkbox.

Enter your RIT Computer Account information into the Username and Password boxes.

Click the People Icon inside the Password box.

This allows you to control which accounts on the computer can log into this network with the information you're providing. To keep your RIT Computer Account login information private, you should select Store this password only for this user.

Click the Connect button at the bottom of the window.

The window will disappear, and the Network window will show the connection to the network has started.

The connected to the network should complete.

A checkmark will be shown next to the network name.

You may close the Network window.

If the connection is not completed successfully, select the network name from the Network window, and be sure your login information is correct.
