Cache Performance 🚀
- Cold render: ~32ms
- Cached render: ~0.01ms
- Speedup: 4000x faster!
- ✅ Cache is working extremely well
-
Format Performance
- SVG: 0.44ms (fastest - no rasterization)
- PDF: 0.46ms (fast - direct from compiler)
- JPEG: 4.12ms (fast - lossy compression)
- PNG: 9.72ms (slower - lossless compression)
- WebP: 10.37ms (slower - complex algorithm)
-
Resolution Impact (linear scaling)
- 72 PPI: 4.74ms
- 192 PPI: 9.30ms (default)
- 300 PPI: 16.17ms
- 600 PPI: 38.96ms
- 2x PPI ≈ 2x render time
-
Scale Impact (quadratic scaling)
- 1x: 10.27ms
- 2x: 22.97ms
- 3x: 35.81ms
- 4x: 51.33ms
- 5x: 69.49ms
- Higher scale = disproportionate slowdown
-
Batch Rendering
- 10 items: 44.75ms total
- Per item: 4.48ms
- ✅ Efficient compiler reuse
- Sharp rasterization - SVG→PNG conversion is the slowest part
- High PPI/scale - Directly impacts Sharp processing time
- PNG/WebP encoding - Lossless formats are slower
- Cache (4000x speedup) ✅
- Compiler reuse in batch ✅
- Async queue for thread safety ✅
Current: Sequential processing Proposed: Parallel with worker threads Impact: 3-5x faster batches Risk: High complexity, potential memory issues Recommendation: ❌ Skip - sequential is safer
Current: Compiler created on first render Proposed: Delay until absolutely needed Impact: Minimal (already fast) Recommendation: ❌ Skip - negligible benefit
Current: Users manually set quality Proposed: Offer presets (fast/balanced/quality) Impact: User experience improvement Recommendation: ✅ Consider for v2
Current: renderStream() uncompressed Proposed: Add gzip/brotli option Impact: Network bandwidth savings Recommendation: ✅ Good for HTTP responses
Current: Single compiler instance Proposed: Pool of pre-warmed compilers Impact: Marginal (10-20ms saved on first render) Risk: Memory overhead Recommendation: ❌ Skip - cache solves this
- Use cache (enabled by default) - 4000x faster!
- Choose format wisely:
- SVG for web/vector needs (0.44ms)
- JPEG for photos/quality (4.12ms)
- PNG for transparency (9.72ms)
- Lower PPI/scale for speed:
- 72 PPI for previews (5ms)
- 192 PPI for production (9ms)
- 300+ PPI only when necessary (16ms+)
Current performance is excellent. No critical optimizations needed.
The cache provides 4000x speedup, and even uncached renders are fast (~30ms). Sharp is already highly optimized in Rust, so further improvements would be minimal.
✅ Performance is production-ready
- Cold renders: ~30ms (excellent)
- Cached renders: ~0.01ms (incredible)
- Batch processing: ~4.5ms per item (efficient)
The package is already well-optimized. Focus should be on:
- Maintaining code quality
- Adding features (not optimizing existing ones)
- Improving documentation
