Separating out subcrates

I'm wondering if it would be useful to have some subcrates in their own repo. I have fp in mind in particular, since it seems probable that other projects would like to use it. Some advantages that come to mind:

• Easier version control
• Able to publish to crates.io
• More visibility
• Potential for broader use and more contributors
• Better organization of tests, issues and PRs

Should they also be owned by @SpectralSequences? Also, it looks like fp is taken on crates.io. What should we rename it to?

If you want to split them into separate github repos then putting them under the SpectralSequences org would make sense. @dalcde was strongly in favor of a monorepo. For instance, ruff has a very large number of crates in the same repo.

But I would argue the ruff project is organized like that to keep each crate tidier. I doubt people often use any of these subcrates without using ruff itself. For us I feel like, at least in fp's case, it has a different use case and could be more general

I'm using some of the ruff crates. For instance they have a Python parser in there. A lot of them do orthogonal independently useful things.

Anyways I don't personally mind git submodules that badly but they are a bit more maintenance effort and this project doesn't have an excessive amount of maintenance effort to go around.
