Hi @molmay - this is an extra layer of protection on Apple’s side. Here’s Apple’s guidelines for how to open unverified software (QGIS is safe to open): https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/apple-cant-check-app-for-malicious-software-mchleab3a043/mac

I've just added a note to the session page to advise users to install the Standalone Installers (MSI) rather than the top link on the download page, which says it is for "regular users" (and therefore slightly misleadingly sounds like it means "normal people" ;-) ).
