Why?

A sidebar navigation will allow us to use more of the screen on desktops and open up room for some new navigation features.

Additional Information

Do we show the side nav for logged out users or stick with the traditional top navigation?

@KevinMulhern is this issue still applicable? Just wondering if this was intended as something other than the current side nav we have.

If this is technically resolved, would you be opposed to updating this issue to be for making the side nav collapsible/expandable rather than "all or nothing" shown or hidden?

When my browser zoom is set to 100% I see the side nav fine, but when I increase the zoom it's just gone with no way to view it:

@thatblindgeye sorry, this issue is light on details. It's for exploring an overall site side nav, something like this:

For the lesson table of contents side nav, we've got a recent issue which might be relevant.

Ah gotcha! Yeah that other issue came about from a curriculum issue. I'll open a separate issue for what I detailed above since it's a bit different from both of these, but Ill link to both just in case they are a bit more coupled in terms of implementation.
