How does video act when the next chunk of video didn't load yet in streaming

Let's say I have a long video that is being streamed on my phone via HLS or whatever.

Let's take a look at this case:

1. I start watching the video
2. First batch of the video loaded (for example, first 5 seconds of the video)
3. I reach the end of first 5 seconds

What will happen then? Will the video player just pause itself and wait for the next batch to load (after this it will resume playing) or will it start playing video again (if repeat prop is passed)?
