It would be nice if upbge had an imposter object system. Which is probably a mix of sprites, parallax, normal map, lowpoly objects, and a sprite swap pointed at the camera.
Maybe you have the color, nomal map and sprites circling the objects, 360 degrees horizontally (z) and 90 degrees vertically (x, y), for every 1 degree horizontally maybe 90 degrees vertically, distributing the sprites.
Ai probably calculating the camera position to point the sprites at the camera. And with parallax you would probably have to sink the sprite texture into the lowpoly object, using the camera's distance from the object in the bake process.
