My main use case is to create a 32bit prefix as WinXP and use winetricks to install msxml3, msxml4, and ie7. After that I install Microsoft Money Deluxe Sunset.
Since Wine 10 was released recently I decided to see if building my prefix still works but I had issues when I tried to run msmoney.exe. This program is heavily dependent on ie7, and some of the gui interface items weren't working.
In a fresh 32bit prefix in all wine stable versions 7 - 10, winetricks 2022 and 2023 will install the three components and Money runs as expected. With winetricks 2024 or 2025 I had a few issues. MSXML3 tries to install a Win7 version windows6.1-KB976932-X86 / windows6.1-KB976932-X64 but fails on the hash check; then winetricks exits without installing msxml4. Also, there are sections of the registry that are missing some settings relative to msxml3 unless using winetricks 2022/2023. I thought msxml3 was the source of my issues with Money but I think it's actually with ie7.
When installing ie7, I don't install the updates during install, and I skip the restart. The install with winetricks 2023 and prior shows many popups trying (and failing?) to register the dll's during installation. Winetricks 2024 and 2025 are silent on this part.
So the bottom line for me: I realize there are probably not many people installing those components so I'm not asking for any changes to be made. I have a requirement to run this setup indefinitely and as long as I have winetricks 2023 with the three items I need then I'm good.
I just wanted to post this in case in the future anyone runs into this problem and is looking for pointers.
I appreciate winetricks as a tool, thanks for what you do.
