According to Bart this should have a fix either implemented in theory or awaiting in a merge request - if so, go ahead and mark this as resolved once it has been confirmed fixed.
Currently, after either \chapterstyle or \sectionstyle command is used, an incrementing number occurs after the abstract and before the first line of actual document text. Bart thinks this is a footnote for author (which appears to be true) that shouldn't be there and isn't until one of the style commands is invoked. Once one of the style commands is invoked however, this happens (and increments) every future activity, regardless of if it is preceded by a style command.
NOTE: This is one of the issues noticed via the pdf from the "all examples" repo compilation as part of the full project audit I'm doing.
