Partially clear formatting

Partially clear formatting within selected text does not work.

for example: clearing formatting of 'jump over the' in the following text

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
```
The expected behaviour is that clearing this would result in:
```html
The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog
```
