POST http://localhost:5173/ 404 (Not Found)

When i have both my server and client running, and i enter a prompt the alert comes back blank, and the console gives a 404 error saying it was not able to fetch the response.
Things I've tried:

1. i moved the .env file to the server folder
2. added a proxy variable to my package.json file
3. ive restarted both my server and client
4. Updated server.js file to listen for localhost 5173
5. I've tried a different API key (free trial is still active)
