@BiggestDad and @nwaokike22, you two have completely misunderstood what this is. Alievk wrote a cool program and decided to share the source code with everybody else, so they can do whatever they want with it. Neither he or anyone else has some kind of obligation to update it if it stops working, or to help random strangers when they can't run it.

You are not customers and you're not entitled to support. There are no "creators" or "developers" who get paid to work on this. This is free open source software. Anyone, including you, can figure out how to fix this and submit a pull request with the solution. People who help out and submit work to FOSS projects become contributors, and most do so in their free time. You have no right to demand that contributors work on fixing things for you.

The issue has been reported, anyone who has time and interest can work on trying to solve it. You can wait, fix it yourself, or move on with your life. Or you know, hire an IT consultant to fix it for you if you need it that bad and lack the skills to do it.

@BiggestDad no worries. I understand that many might not have any prior experience with FOSS projects, so they don't know how it's different from when they download a product from an app store etc.

I'd love to spend a couple of weekends to improve avatarify-python, and fix all the dependency issues that appears to have broken it, but I have too much other stuff going on at the moment to do that. But it would also be nice if someone else with a little bit of computer skills, who wants to use avatarify, could do it and submit a PR.

It’s actually a simple solution. First of all you are stuck at a stage that you need to skip. Press Ctrl+C and it will stop the script. It will ask if you want to end the batch, press N and Enter. It will continue the process to the end. When you try to run the script you will face an error because of the stage you skipped but this time it will tell you the missing packages and all you have to do is to manually install them with pip or conda. Voila you are done. Enjoy. If you need a thorough explanation you can reach me via email and I’ll be happy to assist. [email protected]

You need a laptop with Nvidia graphics card already in it or you use the colab option. The colab option works on any computer because the GPU work is done on the colab platform

@BlackJapanese
Copy link

@abladefelix Ok how do I get the Colab option?

@abladefelix

@BlackJapanese its in the instructions of avatarify Python. That’s the first thing you see in the instructions. Just click on the colab button and it will take you to the colab page to continue

@JohanAR Yes they demanded for $500 to teach me.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been on the fence about people posting their whatsapp etc. I want think the best of people and give them a chance, but I suspect most are scammers. At least those who claim they have a solution while refusing to post it in a reply.

If you want to give any of the "helpers" that's up to you. Hopefully it's safe to try at least, as long as you don't give them remote access to your computer (i.e. anydesk, teamviewer etc) or install anything they tell you to.

It’s fascinating how people want solution but won’t read. I posted the solution to this here and yet people still want to have others run this for them. I have done the installation for few people and expect them to also help others in same situation. I am not a contributor to this project but I’m only giving a helping hand. I’m going to state the solution here one last time
Install mamba at [base]
edit the install script and change the first line line that installs libraries by replacing conda with mamba. And remove the resolver part at the end of the script.
Edit requirements script by making the opencv require to >= and not ==
Note: make sure you remove all avatarify installations files you have put earlier as it may cause conflicts. Do that before you start this

Also note that mamba has to be Installed at the base environment and not the avatarify environment

I believe this would be clear enough to help you all.
Asking people to leave their busy schedule to help you need to know they may do it for free or charge you since you don’t want to do it yourself. I did this for people for free but if requests keep coming flooding my inbox I may also end up charging people because I have posted the solution and also need to put a hold on my works on my own personal projects to personally handle the installations for you.
I hope this solution reaches you all and solve your problem installing avatarify Python.
Cheers!

@JohanAR i can see you are a contributor to this project. I’ll do a PR and I want to know if you will have the time to review and approve. I need that assurance so it won’t be a waste of time because I have more pressing things to attend to

@abladefelix

It’s fascinating how people want solution but won’t read.

Welcome to my world :( I don't know if something happened, but some time ago we got a sudden increase in seemingly complete computer illiterates who are trying to run avatarify. Most people who come here nowadays hasn't read the manual (or even the README), hasn't tried to google their problem, doesn't check for existing issue reports, deletes the new issue template instead of filling it out, and uploads a photo of their monitor instead of figuring out how to copy text from a terminal.. In addition, many are angry because they can't get avatarify running, and/or expect 1-on-1 support to guide them through the installation, as if they were paying customers..

And that's only what I assume are legitimate wanna-be-users, there's also daily spam from people claiming to have solutions to issues, which they will only share over whatsapp calls where they will either demand money and/or try to gain control over the user's computer using remote access tools.

I am not a contributor to this project but I’m only giving a helping hand

There are many ways to contribute to FOSS projects in addition to writing code, answering issue reports also helps a lot. In the end we are all just normal people giving a helping hand, at least for small projects like this :)

I will check incoming PRs. If it's trivial stuff like changing package versions etc. like you said then I can approve it. However I've been unable to run avatarify-python since I switched to a different Linux distribution so I can't verify any more complex features etc.
