Dynamic time grain based on selected period

In order to have a decent performance and at the same time avoid the need to modify the time grain each time a different time range (period) is selected, I would like to have an option "dynamic" in the time grain selector. Probably it would be best that you select a time grain in such a way that the complete time range is covert by something in between 100 to 500 timeslots.
