This is an awesome project and also works very good!

I just have some suggestion if they are possible to achieve:

  • I noticed that after installing this extension(?) there are two Spotify icons in the application launcher. The original one and one showed by this project which only gives an error when I click on it. Is it possible to hide this icon from the launcher? (but show it in the settings in the search section)
  • Does this project qualify as a shell extension? If so, it is possible to upload it to extensions.gnome.org/? Like some similar search providers project.

Hi, thank you for your kind words.

With regards to the first point, I tried adding NoDisplay=true to the desktop entry, which indeed hid the icon, but also the results... I would also like to know how to hide it (maybe I could just set the Exec field to spotify, so that both icons will launch spotify. Other ideas?

As per the second point, I am not sure its feasible, since this extension depends on the spotipy library, so it won't work if installed from the gnome shell extensions page.

Regarding the first issue, you could just set your DesktopID to the one of the Spotify client, like this:

DesktopId=spotify.desktop

This allows you to remove your own .desktop file, which results in only one Spotify icon remaining.
