a11y - Play button only works once

Fully patched latest OS X with Safari and Voiceover.

If I choose to use an audio captcha and hit the play button, the audio plays 
but of course Voiceover interferes with its speech a bit. So if I go back to 
the play button to hear the audio again, hitting space or return on the play 
button moves focus back to the input as expected but no audio plays. In other 
words, I only get one chance to hear the audio which is not sufficient.
